Upgrade breakfast with Gold Medal® flour in this savory sausage and apple biscuit bake. Cheesy and delicious!
Ingredients:
  • 1 package (1 lb) bulk pork sausage
  • 4 medium cooking apples, coarsely chopped (4 cups)
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons firm butter or margarine, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (6 oz)
  • 2 medium green onions, finely chopped (2 tablespoons)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Grease a 13x9-inch glass baking dish. In a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage, apples, and onion for 8 to 10 minutes until the sausage is no longer pink. Transfer the mixture to the baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and 1/2 teaspoon of salt until combined. Pour the egg mixture over the sausage.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt in a large bowl. Use a pastry blender (or two knives) to cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in cheese and green onions. Add buttermilk and stir until just combined. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough evenly onto sausage mixture.
  • Bake without covering for 20-30 minutes until the biscuits are deeply golden brown and cooked through. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
