Satisfy teen cravings with savory sausage and onion rolls - a perfect way to celebrate the end of school!
Ingredients:
  • 18.20 gm olive oil
  • 500g beef sausage
  • 20g butter
  • 3 red onions, halved, thinly sliced
  • 16.00 gm brown sugar
  • 40.00 ml balsamic vinegar
  • 16 dinner bread rolls
  • 1 baby cos lettuce, leaves separated, torn in half
  • 1 Lebanese cucumber, halved lengthways, thinly sliced
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced. Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Sear sausages for 10 to 12 minutes until fully cooked, then transfer to a heatproof dish and cover to keep warm.
  • While the butter and remaining oil heat in a pan over medium heat, cook the onion covered for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until softened. Then, add sugar and vinegar. Continue cooking uncovered, stirring, for 5 to 6 minutes until caramelized.
  • Prepare two baking trays by lining them with baking paper. Then, place the rolls on the trays and bake them in the oven for 4 to 5 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden hue.
  • Slice the rolls in half lengthwise, keeping one side intact. Fill each roll with 1 piece of lettuce, 3 cucumber slices, and 1 chipolata sausage. Add the onion mixture on top. Enjoy immediately.
