Indulge in delectable gem-shaped treats with luscious browned butter icing.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup sesame seed
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. In a 2-quart saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter with sesame seeds over low heat until golden brown (be careful not to burn). Remove from heat. Take out 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds and set aside; keep the rest for the frosting.
  • In a large bowl, combine 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, 1/2 cup softened butter, granulated sugar, egg, and water. Mix well, then stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Spoon rounded teaspoonfuls of dough onto ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Flatten to 1/2-inch thickness using a greased glass dipped in sugar.
  • Bake for around 10 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown. Transfer the cookies from the baking sheet to a wire rack and let them cool completely for approximately 30 minutes.
  • Combine the rest of the ingredients with the saved sesame seed mixture until smooth. Frost the cookies with the mixture.
