Tender beef marinated in savory soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and garlic, then slow-cooked for a delicious Korean bulgogi dish.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce, divided
  • 0.25 cup white sugar, divided
  • 4 teaspoons sesame oil, divided
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, divided
  • 1.5 pounds beef, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1 green onion, cut into 1-inch pieces, or more to taste
Instructions:
  • Combine 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons sesame oil, 1 crushed garlic clove, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper in a large bowl. Add beef and marinate in the refrigerator, covered with plastic wrap, for at least 30 minutes, or ideally overnight.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons sesame oil, 1 clove garlic, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to create a second marinade.
  • Heat sesame seeds in a small skillet over medium heat until they turn a light golden brown, which should take about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the marinated beef, the extra marinade, toasted sesame seeds, and green onion to the slow cooker. Let it cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours until the beef is tender and the flavors meld beautifully.
