Carolina pulled pork made easy: slow cook pork shoulder with tangy cider vinegar and spicy pepper sauce for authentic Southern flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (5 pound) bone-in pork shoulder roast
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 1.5 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1.5 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions:
  • Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker, generously season with salt and pepper, and surround it with vinegar. Cook on Low for 12 hours until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  • Take out the pork from the slow cooker, remove any bones, and strain off the liquid, saving 2 cups (discard any excess). Use tongs or forks to shred the pork and return it to the slow cooker.
  • Combine brown sugar, hot pepper sauce, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes with the reserved liquid, then incorporate the mixture into the pork in the slow cooker.
  • Simmer covered on low heat until ready to serve.
