Tender cube steaks cooked low and slow in a savory tomato sauce with onions and garlic for a delicious twist on a classic beef dish.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 pounds cube steak
  • 0.25 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced thin
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons ground paprika
  • 2 teaspoons ground thyme
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, salt, mustard, and pepper in a wide, shallow bowl. Coat cube steaks evenly with the flour mixture.
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, sizzle steaks in oil until beautifully golden, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Move steaks to a slow cooker, keeping the flavorful drippings in the skillet.
  • Cook onion and garlic in the flavorful skillet drippings over medium heat until fragrant and softened, about 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer them to the slow cooker, leaving behind any excess oil.
  • Combine the broth and tomato paste in a large bowl, stirring until the paste is fully dissolved. Mix in the tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, thyme, and oregano. Pour this flavorful mixture over the steaks in the slow cooker.
  • Slow cook until the meat is tender and easily falls apart, which should take about 6 to 8 hours.
