Tender, flavorful slow-cooked Swiss steak with vegetables, seasonings, and tomato juice.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1.5 pounds round steak, cut into small pieces
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 carrots, shredded
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl. Coat steak pieces lightly in the flour mixture.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté celery, onion, and carrots in hot oil until tender, approximately 5 minutes. Then add steak pieces and continue to cook and stir until lightly browned, about 5 minutes.
  • Move the steak-vegetable mixture into the slow cooker and mix in the tomatoes with juice, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Slow cook until the steak is melt-in-your-mouth tender, for 8 to 10 hours.
