Delicious slow-cooked apple, walnut, and mushroom stuffing - a flavor-packed side dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 medium stalks celery, sliced (1 cup)
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 package (14 oz) herb-seasoned stuffing cubes
  • 1 jar (4.5 oz) sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 2 cups water
Instructions:
  • In an 8-inch skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with walnuts over medium heat until walnuts are lightly toasted. Remove toasted walnuts with a slotted spoon and place them in a small dish. Stir in honey and nutmeg to coat the walnuts. Set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt the remaining 6 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Sauté the celery and onion in the butter for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until almost tender.
  • Spray a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Place stuffing cubes in the slow cooker, followed by the mushrooms and celery mixture. Mix gently. Add the applesauce and water, and mix lightly.
  • Simply cover and simmer on low heat for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Sprinkle the dish with delicious glazed walnuts right before serving.
