Whip up this easy slow cooker dessert to enjoy a warm and decadent fudgy treat alongside your dinner.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 bag (12 oz) frozen dark sweet cherries, thawed, coarsely chopped and drained
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Dash salt
  • 1 1/3 cups boiling water
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
Instructions:
  • Prepare the slow cooker by spraying it with cooking spray. In a medium bowl, combine flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa, baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add milk, butter, and almond extract, then mix until smooth. Fold in cherries, then spread the batter evenly in the slow cooker.
  • Mix the pudding mixture ingredients in a small bowl, except for the boiling water. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the batter in the cooker, then carefully pour the boiling water over the top to moisten all of the sugar mixture.
  • Cover and cook on the High heat setting for 1 to 1.5 hours until the top springs back when lightly touched (the center will still be soft). Turn off the slow cooker and allow the cake to stand uncovered for 20 minutes to cool slightly. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and almonds, cover, and let stand for an additional 5 minutes to soften the chips.
