Indulgent sweet potato mash with butter, brown sugar, and festive spices - a must-have for Thanksgiving.
Ingredients:
  • 3 to 4 pounds red-fleshed sweet potatoes (yams)
  • 1/4 cup (packed) brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoonorange zest
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  • Prepare the sweet potatoes by poking holes all over with a fork to release pressure while cooking. Place them on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake until completely tender, which will take about 50 minutes to an hour. Allow them to cool before handling.
  • Separate the tender sweet potato flesh from the skins by slicing them in half and gently scooping the flesh into a spacious bowl.
  • Combine brown sugar, butter, lemon juice, orange zest, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and salt and mix until smooth using an electric mixer or strong arms. Beat sweet potatoes until completely smooth, then season with ground black pepper to taste. Sample and resist the temptation to eat them all. Enjoy the recipe?
