Festive tree-shaped Christmas cookies with colorful Betty Crocker® icing - a must-try holiday treat!
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons green gel food color
  • 1 pouch (7 oz) Betty Crocker™ Decorating Cookie Icing green icing
  • 15 small yellow star candy sprinkles
  • White snowflake candy sprinkles
  • White and yellow nonpareils
  • White sanding sugar
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the butter until creamy. Gradually mix in the granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla, and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt on low speed until just blended. Gently fold in the food color. Cover the dough and chill for 2 hours or until firm.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a 1/4-inch thickness. Use a floured 3-inch or 5-inch tree-shaped cookie cutter to cut out 30 trees, re-rolling the trimmings if necessary. Trim the bottoms of the trees straight across to remove the trunks. Arrange the cutouts 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until set but not browned. While still warm, slice half of the cookies vertically in half. Let the cookies cool on the sheets for 2 minutes, then transfer them to cooling racks. Allow the cookies to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Use icing to stick 2 cookie halves at a right angle on opposite sides of the center of each whole cookie. Decorate cookie trees with star and snowflake candies, nonpareils, and sanding sugar.
