Smoky bacon-infused green beans with sweet and tangy flavors - a quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing side dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 pounds green beans, trimmed, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon water, or as needed
  • 1 teaspoon peanut oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 6 slices bacon, or more to taste
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar
  • 0.75 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 0.25 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, add green beans and enough water to cover the bottom. Microwave until green beans are tender but still crisp, for 1 to 3 minutes. Drain excess water.
  • In a large wok or skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion in peanut oil until tender, about 5 to 10 minutes. Once done, transfer the onion to a bowl and dispose of any excess oil.
  • Cook the bacon in a wok or skillet over medium-high heat until evenly browned, about 10 minutes, turning occasionally. Drain the bacon on paper towels, then cut into bite-size pieces. Reserve 4 to 5 tablespoons of bacon drippings in the wok.
  • Combine onion, brown sugar, vinegar, and liquid smoke in the flavorful bacon drippings. Cook and stir until the sauce bubbles and the brown sugar melts, approximately 5 minutes. Introduce green beans to the luscious sauce, ensuring they are well-coated. Cook until green beans are warmed through, which should take 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Transfer the seasoned green beans to a microwave-safe casserole dish. Serve right away or reheat in the microwave if desired.
