Master the perfect steak with this foolproof recipe!
Ingredients:
  • 1kg Desiree potatoes, peeled, cut into 3cm pieces
  • 100ml olive oil
  • 20g butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 400g button mushrooms, thickly sliced
  • 20.00 ml finely chopped chives
  • 4 (350g each) beef T-bone steaks
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, boil potatoes in cold water until tender. Drain and return to the saucepan. Cook over low heat until dry. Remove from heat and mash with 2 tablespoons oil, salt, and pepper. Keep warm.
  • In a frying pan over medium-high heat, sizzle garlic in a mix of butter and 2 tablespoons of oil for 1 minute, then mix into mash.
  • Place the mushrooms in a sizzling pan. Sauté over medium-high heat for 4 to 5 minutes until golden and any liquid has evaporated. Mix in the chives.
  • Preheat a chargrill or barbecue to medium-high heat. Brush steaks with the remaining oil, then season with salt and pepper. Grill steaks for 4 to 5 minutes on each side for a medium doneness or until cooked to your preference. Let the steaks rest, covered with foil, for 3 minutes before serving.
  • Plate the steaks and generously spoon the savory mushrooms on top before serving alongside a creamy mash.
