Impress your guests with a savory ground turkey and spinach phyllo bake, loaded with gooey cheese.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped (1 cup)
  • 2 lb lean (at least 93%) ground turkey
  • 1 box (9 oz) frozen chopped spinach, thawed, squeezed to drain
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 2 cups crumbled feta cheese (8 oz)
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 5 sheets frozen phyllo (filo) pastry (14x9 inch), thawed
  • Cooking spray
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and generously coat a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Heat butter in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté onion for 5 minutes until tender. Add turkey and cook for 8-9 minutes until no longer pink. Stir in spinach and garam masala until well combined. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Combine the cheese, pine nuts, salt, and egg with the turkey mixture until thoroughly mixed. Transfer the mixture into a baking dish.
  • Lay out phyllo sheets and cover with plastic wrap or a towel. Layer 1 phyllo sheet over the turkey mixture and spray with cooking spray. Repeat with the remaining 4 phyllo sheets, then spray the top sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until phyllo is crispy and golden brown.
