Indulgent fudgy turtle cake with devil's food base, pecans, chocolate, and caramel drizzle, baked in a skillet.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon solid vegetable shortening
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box devil's food chocolate cake mix (such as Betty Crocker® Super Moist®)
  • 1.3333333730698 cups water
  • 3 eggs
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar caramel ice cream topping, divided
  • 4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet baking chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 0.5 cup pecan halves, coarsely chopped
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 12-inch stainless steel, oven-safe skillet, ensuring to tap out any excess flour for a perfect finish.
  • In a large bowl, mix together cake mix, water, eggs, and oil using an electric mixer on low speed until moistened. Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes, occasionally scraping the sides of the bowl. Transfer the batter into the prepared skillet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 30-35 minutes.
  • After cooling on a wire rack for 5 minutes, gently loosen the edges with a table knife and flip onto a large round platter. Allow to cool for approximately 30 minutes before serving.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, mix half of the caramel topping with the baking chocolate. Microwave on high for 30 to 60 seconds until the chocolate is melted. Stir until smooth, then spread it over the cake.
  • Top the cake generously with pecans and elegantly drizzle the rest of the caramel topping over it. Allow it to sit until the topping is firm. Slice into wedges before serving.
